TRAINING

All Umpire new candidates who have NOT taken and passed the HOCR Umpire Test must do so before you can be accepted. USRA Referees, new to HOCR, are not required to physically attend a training session. You can take the training and test online using the HOCR web site materials.

Go to this training link for the basic course materials. Information on the online test will be sent to you in late August.

BASIC training sessions (mandatory for Umpires local to Boston): Saturday, September 26th, 9:00–11:30AM at Cambridge Boat Club

ADVANCED Training on Interference (required for experienced umpires) will be held via self-study and a web-based course. More info to come soon.

It is highly recommended that you attend the Umpire Friday night meeting at BB&N Upper School (across from Cambridge Boat Club): Friday, October 17th, 5:00–7:00PM

HOTEL ROOMS

(For out of town USRA Umpires) The HOCR reserved rooms at the La Quinta in Somerville (same as last year) at a special rate of $115 + tax for both kinds of rooms:

  • Double (2 queen beds)
  • Single (king bed)

The HOCR will pay for the 1st 40 beds requested by the Umpire Corps, and the HOCR Umpire Committee will assign them per first request/first assigned.

We have extra rooms for significant others and umpires who register after the free rooms are all assigned. All costs for significant others are the responsibility of the Umpire.

Rooms are non-smoking. If you want an extended stay, you must make these additional reservations directly with the La Quinta in Somerville. Contact La Quinta at (617) 625-5300 x801 and ask for Lisa Griffin. Tell her you are an HOCR Umpire to get Umpire rates. You can also contact Lisa via email at:
